We have shared our analyses and predictions for the seven matches we selected from this midweek’s Premier League, Scottish Premiership, DFB-Pokal, and Copa del Rey fixtures.
Chelsea FC vs Leeds United

Match Analysis
Chelsea, who effectively decided the match early with a first-half hat-trick from the ever-composed Cole Palmer, secured a very comfortable win away at Wolverhampton Wanderers and extended their winning streak, continuing the team’s upward momentum. This week, they will host another side fighting relegation, Leeds United, at Stamford Bridge.
Leeds United earned a clear 3–1 home win over Nottingham Forest, a team that boasts quality on paper but has failed to gel as a unit. That result not only pleased their fans but also created a six-point gap between them and the relegation zone. While Nottingham Forest’s lack of presence on the pitch contributed to that outcome, it was still a very important three points. In fact, that victory may allow Leeds to approach the Chelsea away fixture with a certain degree of comfort.
However, this “comfort” could work in Chelsea’s favor. With superior form and overall squad quality, Chelsea are expected to secure an easy win.

West Ham United vs Manchester United

Match Analysis
Man Utd extended their winning streak to four matches by overcoming the tough Tottenham Hotspur hurdle and continue their strong upward momentum as they travel to face West Ham this week. Although Cristian Romero’s red card caused Tottenham to lose their grip on the game early, Man United once again made very effective use of their fast attacks and dangerous long balls played in behind the defense, ultimately controlling the match and securing the win. Had they avoided a few minor mistakes, two additional goals that were ruled out for offside could also have counted. Scoring from a well-worked corner routine also showed that the team is making serious progress in set-piece situations. Bryan Mbeumo continues to score, Bruno Fernandes looks happy and is performing like a true team leader. The positive atmosphere and belief are evident not only in these players but throughout the entire squad. Michael Carrick has clearly been the catalyst for significant changes and is beginning to look like a strong candidate to become the Red Devils’ permanent manager.
West Ham, aiming to move away from the relegation zone, found some relief with a 2–0 away win at Burnley FC. However, despite scoring through effective counterattacks, they surrendered almost complete control of the match to Burnley, who missed numerous chances. This suggests that things are still far from fully stable for West Ham. Their 3–2 defeat to Chelsea—after leading 2–0—also exposed a negative tendency to lose control and allow opponents back into games.
In their current outstanding form, Man Utd are expected to exploit West Ham’s weaknesses effectively, extend their winning run to five straight victories, and continue their rise. And with that result, Frank Ilett—who has not cut his hair for more than a year and a half—may finally be getting rid of it.

Away Win ✖
Aston Villa vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Match Analysis
For Aston Villa, the fairy tale appears to be over. They are going through a serious downturn that began with the defeat to Everton. In attack, Villa often show a selfish tendency—opting for shots instead of combining with teammates to finish clear chances with certainty. This leads to wasted scoring opportunities. Defensively, their risky passing sequences can also come at a heavy cost. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has the bad habit of trying to catch balls he should be punching away, which has occasionally gifted opponents major chances, some of which have resulted in goals.
Brighton, on the other hand, have struggled to meet expectations this season and have delivered performances well below what was anticipated. However, Brighton can look very different in big matches, often raising their level significantly. They are therefore likely to approach the Aston Villa game with heightened motivation. In fact, the goal Aston Villa conceded from AFC Bournemouth last week—where Rayan ran through the defense with ease before finishing in style—was exactly the type of action a dangerous weapon like Kaoru Mitoma is capable of producing.
In a match where Aston Villa could once again struggle defensively, things may not go in their favor, and the downturn many have expected for some time could continue.

Manchester City vs Fulham FC

Match Analysis
Man City rejoined the title race with a remarkable comeback win away at Liverpool FC and now host Fulham at home this week. The victory at Anfield, where Rúben Dias returned, Erling Haaland rediscovered his effectiveness, and Gianluigi Donnarumma delivered a highly reassuring performance, gave the team a massive boost in morale and belief.
Fulham, on the other hand, endured an unlucky defeat. They started very strongly and even took the lead, but after hitting the woodwork and failing to convert their chances, they were punished by Everton’s surprising comeback and left the match empty-handed. It was the kind of misfortune that can shake a team’s confidence and affect its internal dynamics. Even if they manage to recover mentally and approach this game with motivation, they will face a very difficult task away at a Manchester City side whose title hopes have been reignited. On the rare occasions they might create chances, they could find themselves up against the “Donnarumma wall.”
Guardiola and his players no longer have the luxury of making mistakes in matches like this. Man City are expected to win without much difficulty.

Celtic FC vs Livingston FC

Match Analysis
Although Celtic have shown some inconsistency this season with a few back-to-back defeats, they have regained momentum with three wins in their last four matches. They also boosted their morale by overcoming a crucial obstacle in the Scottish FA Cup, scoring a late goal against Dundee FC to take the match into extra time and eventually securing qualification.
This time, they face Livingston, a very weak side anchored to the bottom of the league table. Livingston have lost their last five away matches and are still without a single away win, making them a team that can be described as largely goal-difference fodder. Considering both the current form and the huge gap in squad quality, Celtic are expected to secure a comfortable victory by a clear margin.

Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig

Match Analysis
Although TSG 1899 Hoffenheim were reduced early by a red card and lost their grip on the match, Bayern put an end to the talk of a downturn with a clear 5–1 victory last weekend. Now they host RB Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal quarter-final. While it may look like a tough contest on paper, Leipzig have been an inconsistent side who struggle to deliver in big matches—a pattern that has been clearly visible in their Bundesliga fixtures this season.
With the important win over Hoffenheim, Bayern managed to disperse the growing clouds of negativity around the club before they could build up. They are expected to overcome the Leipzig hurdle as well and advance to the semi-finals of the cup.

Atlético de Madrid vs FC Barcelona

Match Analysis
Atlético Madrid, looking to recover from the shocking league defeat against Real Betis Balompié, host Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final. The ironic part is that Atlético had beaten Real Betis 5–0 away in the Copa del Rey quarter-final. Deeply frustrated by that heavy defeat, Manuel Pellegrini got his revenge with a league win over Atlético at the Metropolitano.
After this painful loss, Atlético will approach the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Barcelona with an absolute must-win mentality. It is also the kind of match where their new signing Ademola Lookman will be eager to make an impact. Atlético’s attacking line has the quality to break through Barcelona’s well-known offside trap and find goals. On the other hand, Barcelona, led by the brilliant Lamine Yamal and playing fluid attacking football, are also likely to score against an Atlético side that no longer possess the rock-solid defensive line of previous years.
For that reason, rather than choosing a side, it appears more logical to back both teams to find the net in what should be an open and entertaining contest.
